Today has been a fucked up sort of a day......
It started with London. Poor Britain has gone from high (Olympic bid, hosting the G8) to low (Boom Boom) in less than 72 hours. It makes one's head spin. There's been enough said about the tragedy already. I think Andy expressed best what we all were, or should have been, feeling.
Most interesting about today has been people's reactions in London. Sullivan has a great wrap up of reader's emails which highlight two aspects of Londoner's reactions to the tragedy that I think America would do well to emulate.
1) The Brits are and always have been great stoics in the face of adversity. Were this to happen in Chicago or New York the whole country would shut down. In London there are MORE people going to work than before the bombs went off, some people walking across town to make a statement.
2) There's a pub on every corner in London. The Brits have been making good use for them. Who needs Opera and Dr. Phil when a needed, cathartic bitching session is only a pint away.
Seriously, I'll be interested to see what this does to Britain's committment to the "war" on terror. On one hand, they've been reminded that terror knows no boundaries. On the other hand, the Brits have been very good about understanding the difference between confronting terrorists (possibly by military action) and attacking countries that, while bad, have nothing to do with terrorism.
Also, while trying to find a good barber in Durham, I ran across this website. This is just weird. These people need help.

Hey, I really enjoy your profile.
Well, outside of killing small animals for government research money, entertaining strangers is what I'm all about. Thanks for visiting. Please come back.
